Hotel Archibald is situated on Kampa Island in Lesser Town in the historic center of Prague. You will be staying just a few steps from the famous Charles Bridge which is part of the Royal Route – the path along which the medieval Bohemian monarchs paraded on their way to being crowned.
The Charles Bridge (Czech: Karlův most) is a famous historic bridge that crosses the Vltava river in Prague, Czech Republic. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished in the beginning of the 15th century.
This 10 meter wide bridge is protected by three bridge towers. The Old Town Bridge Tower is often considered to be one of the most astonishing civil gothic-style buildings in the world. The bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 statues, most of them in baroque-style.
During the night, the Charles Bridge is a quiet place, but during the day it is transformed into a very busy place – filled with artists, painters, owners of kiosks with souvenirs and hand-made products and other traders as well as numerous tourists crossing the bridge.
The history of the house where our hotel is located (Na Kampě No. 15) dates back to the 16th century. The hotel was completely renovated after the floods in August 2002 and was reopened in May 2003.
Hotel Archibald by the Charles Bridge offers 16 double rooms, 6 DeLuxe rooms and 4 suites. The rooms have a picturesque view of Kampa square where the scenery will remind you of the 16th century. And you can also enjoy breathtaking views of the Charles bridge and the Vltava river – complete with white seagulls, boats with tourists, and many beautiful historic buildings just across the river, including the National Theatre.
Hotel Archibald is conveniently located on Kampa Island – a real paradise for tourists. The Island of St. Luis in Paris, Kampa Island in Prague and Ada Ciganlija in Belgrade gained the title of the three most beautiful city islands in the entire world. This chart was made by the internet company TripAdvisor and was published by the Reuters agency. Kampa Island is considered the most romantic place in Prague. Because of the special scenery, you will feel like you have stepped back in time to the 16th century on Kampa Island in Prague.
Kampa Island in Prague is a place where past meets the present. Don’t miss a visit to John Lennon’s wall – a symbolic monument that began during the dark time of communism and where tributes are paid to John Lennon, the legendary member of The Beatles.
(Reuters Life!) - Some offer serenity, some counter culture, and others are just a good old-fashioned get-away from the city. Regardless, there's something incredibly appealing about an island in the middle of an urban setting. Online travel firm VirtualTourist offers its top 10 islands within cities destinations.
1. Ile Saint-Louis; Paris, France
In a city known for its refinement and elegance, this small island stands out as being the quintessential example of French understatement. Perhaps its best attraction is the world-famous Berthillon ice cream store, easily found by following the long line of patrons that often snakes around the perimeter of the island.
2. Kampa Island; Prague, Czech Republic
Said by many to be the most romantic part of Prague, this part of the city is so stunning it looks almost unreal. Beatles fans know the area for its "Lennon Wall," a wall which visitors from around the world cover with poems, songs, and tributes to the fallen singer.
